{"id":1845,"date":"2026-10-01T20:41:26","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T20:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standrewsmhd.org\/home\/?p=1845"},"modified":"2026-10-01T20:41:38","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T20:41:38","slug":"domestic-abuse-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standrewsmhd.org\/home\/domestic-abuse-awareness-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Domestic Abuse Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Throughout October, St. Andrew\u2019s is shining a light on domestic abuse.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This October, St. Andrew\u2019s will observe Domestic Abuse Awareness Month with a series of sermons, prayers, conversations, and community partnerships designed to raise awareness and deepen our understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on individuals, children, families, and our wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the month, our church will also be illuminated in <strong>purple<\/strong> each evening\u2014a visible sign of awareness, remembrance, and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Month of Awareness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each Sunday in October, our worship will explore a different aspect of domestic abuse. Our Prayers of the People will name and lift up issues related to domestic abuse, while sermons and guest speakers will help us consider how we can better understand, respond to, and support those affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Week One<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why spend a month talking about domestic abuse?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rev. Debbie Phillips, former Chair of the Board of HAWC, will begin the month by exploring why domestic abuse awareness deserves our attention and why communities of faith have a role to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Week Two<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Supporting children living with abuse<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rev. Clyde Elledge will focus on the importance of supportive adults in the lives of children who are living in homes affected by abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Week Three<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The power of community partnerships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A guest speaker from HAWC is planned to share more about the agency\u2019s work and the importance of partnerships between domestic violence organizations and houses of worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Week Four<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A personal story of loss and learning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">St. Andrew\u2019s parishioner Janine Glabicky will share her family\u2019s experience of losing a loved one to domestic partner violence and some of the lessons that have emerged from that experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because this Sunday\u2019s message will include mature and potentially difficult subject matter, a special chapel program will take place concurrently in the Parish Hall for families with children who would prefer an alternative program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lighting St. Andrew\u2019s Purple<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout October, St. Andrew\u2019s will glow purple after dark in recognition of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a simple but visible reminder to our community: domestic abuse is something we need to see, talk about, and address together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Throughout October, St. Andrew\u2019s is shining a light on domestic abuse.
