Planning for the Future, Celebrating Our Centennial
The “Growing Into Our Future” capital campaign set us on a path toward expanded programming and outreach, deepened spirituality, and an enhanced commitment to protecting and sharing our church home for generations to come.
Key initiatives
- Hiring an assistant minister (completed)
- Creating a maintenance fund (ongoing)
- Enhancing the sanctuary (repurposing of the transept, beginning in 2021)
- Improving the parking lot (beginning June 2021): improved safety, more spaces, addition of a plaza. Thank you to Jeff Chelgren for design implementation and to Phoebe Wysor for leading this part of the century project.
As we move toward our centennial in 2024, the Growing Into Our Future campaign enables us to be good stewards of St. Andrew’s, protecting what we have inherited and moving forward in faith to open our arms more fully to each other, to newcomers, and to the wider world.
Enhancements to sanctuary
The first step in sanctuary enhancements, due to begin in 2021, will be significant work on the transept, to transform it into a brighter, more flexible space that can be used for numerous worship experiences, such as for weekday services, retreats, and other small gatherings.
Planned enhancements:
- opened-up ceiling
- new window
- improved lighting
- comfortable chairs
- small votive candle stand for prayers
- side altar
Thank you to the anonymous donors who have made these transept improvements possible.
Parking lot improvements
Beginning in June 2021, work has begun on creating improvements to our parking lot and driveway!
- more parking spaces
- safer traffic plan
- improved lighting
- plaza
- sidewalk
- better drainage
- many beautiful plantings
- as a result, new options for outdoor gatherings
As a first step, we are removing some of the trees that border the playground and those in the “island.” Some of this work is necessitated because light poles have to be moved. (Verizon is doing the work without charge to us, and the town did not require special variances.) While we’ll miss some of the trees, we plan to plant more trees than we remove, and we anticipate a truly beautiful design with flourishing plantings around the lot’s perimeter. Trees beside the tower and in the inner part of the playground will remain.
Ledge removal will take place soon at one side of the parking lot. We hope jackhammers will be sufficient and that blasting won’t be needed. (The nursery school leaders have been fully informed as work begins, and most of the installation will take place over the summer while the preschool is not in session.)
We anticipate that our new and improved lot will be ready in September.
